Emergency Pest Control in Malaysia: What Actually Counts as Urgent?

4.9 · 600+ Google reviewsBy Yusof Izzat, Lead Pest Control Technician  ·  Updated 20 August 2026  ·  10 min read

Quick answer: Three things are genuine pest control emergencies in a Malaysian home — a stinging insect nest people have to walk past, a live rat in the living space or gnawed wiring, and a business facing closure or a failed inspection. Everything else can wait for a normal booking without getting worse. Nobody here runs a technician at 3am: “24-hour pest control” almost always means a 24-hour phone line, and a realistic urgent slot is 24 to 48 hours. Nomobug works Mon–Sat 9am–7pm and charges RM100 on top for an urgent slot. See pest control options →

It is 11pm, something moved in the kitchen, and the phone is already open on a search. That is when almost every emergency pest control search in this country happens, and it is worth knowing what the honest answer looks like before you start ringing the numbers with “24 HOURS” on the banner. What is open at 3am is a phone line, not a technician with a van. This is a triage guide: what genuinely cannot wait, what needs Bomba or a doctor rather than a pest company, what you can do yourself in the first hour, and what an urgent visit actually costs when it is warranted.

What actually counts as an emergency?

The useful test is not how unpleasant it is. It is whether waiting two days makes the outcome materially worse. By that test, most of what gets called an emergency is not one — and a few things that people politely wait a week for genuinely are.

SituationHow urgentWhy
Bee or wasp nest at a doorway, or anyone in the house with a sting allergyToday — 999 if people are being stung nowThe risk is a medical one and it is immediate
Live rat in the living space, or gnawed electrical wiring24–48 hoursBite risk, leptospirosis, and wiring damage that becomes a fire risk
F&B or clinic facing an inspection, a complaint or closure24–48 hoursThe cost is the licence and the trading day, not the pest
Cockroaches suddenly everywhere in a kitchenThis weekDistressing, but the population took months to build and will not double by Thursday
Bed bugs found before guests or a tenant move inThis week, and book the full programmeA rushed single spray fails anyway — the eggs need the follow-up visits
Termite swarm indoorsBook an inspection, not a calloutThe colony has been there for years. The swarmers die within hours
Ants on the counter, one or two cockroaches, mosquitoes in the gardenNormal bookingNothing about a two-day wait changes the treatment or the result

The one that is genuinely underrated. Gnawed wiring. People report a rat in the ceiling as a noise complaint and accept a slot next week. Rodents gnaw cable insulation because their incisors never stop growing, and a chewed live conductor in a roof void is a different category of problem from a scratching sound.

Is 24-hour pest control real in Malaysia?

As a phone line, yes. As a technician standing at your door at 3am, effectively no — not in KL, not in Selangor, not at the prices being advertised alongside the claim.

Here is the arithmetic nobody puts on the banner. A genuine round-the-clock service needs staff on rostered night shifts, paid to be awake and available whether or not the phone rings. That cost lands on every job. When you see a company promising 24-hour attendance at the same price as a normal daytime visit, one of two things is true: the visit is not actually happening at night, or it is happening at night for a price you have not been told yet.

What is real and useful:

  • A number answered at night. Worth having. You describe the problem, you get advice on what to do until morning, and your slot is booked before the queue forms.
  • An urgent daytime slot. Someone gets moved so you get seen inside 24 to 48 hours. This is what “emergency pest control” means in practice everywhere in this market.
  • After-hours commercial work. Common and legitimate — a restaurant is better treated after closing — but arranged in advance, not as a callout.

Nomobug is open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 7pm. We are not going to tell you otherwise on a page whose entire subject is honesty about timing.

When you need Bomba or a doctor, not a pest company

Some of the most urgent situations in this article are not pest control jobs at all, and calling the wrong number costs you the hours that actually mattered.

  • Someone is having an allergic reaction to a sting. Spreading hives, swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing, faintness — that is 999 and nothing else. Do not wait to see whether it settles.
  • A large or high bee or wasp nest, or people being stung right now. Bomba attend this kind of call routinely, they have the height access and protective equipment, and they do not charge for it. Call 999. A pest control company is the better choice afterwards, or for a stable reachable nest where you also want the area treated so it does not re-establish.
  • A snake. Bomba, always. Not a pest control company, and definitely not you with a broom.
  • Burning smell, tripping circuit or scorch marks after rodent activity. Electrician first. Get the wiring made safe, then deal with what chewed it.
  • A bite or scratch from a rat, or fever after contact with floodwater or rat urine. See a doctor the same day and say what happened. Leptospirosis — kencing tikus — has been a gazetted notifiable disease in Malaysia since 2010, and its early symptoms are easily mistaken for dengue.
  • A smell from a wall cavity in a condo or apartment. Tell the management corporation first. If it is in common property, it is their job and their cost, and you will otherwise pay for someone to open a wall that was never yours.

What can you do in the first hour yourself?

A brown rat foraging — contain the room rather than chase the animal

Quite a lot, and most of it is containment rather than killing.

  • A rat in the house: shut the internal doors so it stays in one room, lift pet bowls and food, and open an exterior door or window in that room if there is a clean route out. Most rats leave by themselves. Do not corner it — a cornered rat bites, and you do not want the wound or the doctor’s visit that follows.
  • A stinging nest: close the windows on that side, keep everyone and the pets indoors and away from the flight path, and switch off any light directly beside it at night. Do not spray it, do not throw anything at it, and do not send anyone up a ladder for a photo.
  • Cockroaches suddenly everywhere: photograph them, then leave them alone. Seriously. Do not empty a can of supermarket spray into the kitchen, because the residue makes the gel bait that fixes it unattractive and you will have paid to make your own treatment less effective.
  • Bed bugs found tonight: do not move to the sofa, which is how a bedroom problem becomes a living room problem. Strip the bed, run everything through a hot dryer for 30 minutes, and bag it.
  • Termite swarmers indoors: vacuum them up and keep a few in a container for identification. Do not spray them.
  • Anything at all: take photos before you clean up. A clear photo of the pest, the damage or the droppings usually gets you a fixed quote on WhatsApp without a site visit, which is the fastest route to an actual booking at 11pm.

How fast can anyone actually get there?

For an urgent job in the Klang Valley, 24 to 48 hours is the honest number. Same-day happens — a cancellation, or a technician already working two streets away — but it cannot be promised at the moment of booking, and a company that promises it on every call is managing your feelings rather than its diary.

What genuinely speeds it up, from our side of the phone:

  • A photo. Species identification decides the product on the van. Without it, the first visit is sometimes a survey.
  • Where you are. A job in Gombak, Batu Caves or Ampang can often be slotted into a route the same week far more easily than one at the far edge of the coverage area.
  • Access. Someone over 18 at home, and knowing whether the technician needs a management pass for the lift or the guard house. Half the delays in strata jobs are access, not scheduling.
  • Deciding on the treatment when you book, rather than after the technician arrives. The quote is fixed on WhatsApp beforehand precisely so this step does not eat a day.

A restaurant in Klang called on a Friday afternoon after an officer had been in that morning and left a warning about cockroach activity in the kitchen. They wanted someone that evening. We took the booking, went the next morning before service, did the intensive first visit and left them a dated report the same day. What actually saved them was not the speed — it was that the report existed to show at the follow-up inspection. If they had got a technician at 9pm on the Friday with no documentation, they would have been in exactly the same trouble.

— Job notes, Nomobug field team

When rushing makes the job worse

This is the part that costs people money, and it is nearly always the same three mistakes.

Spraying before a baiting job. The most expensive hour in pest control is the one where a panicking homeowner empties a supermarket aerosol around the kitchen the night before the technician arrives. Gel bait works because cockroaches eat it. Residue from a repellent spray over the same surfaces makes them avoid exactly the places the bait needs to go. We have done second visits that would not have been necessary at all.

Stressing a colony. Ghost ants, pharaoh ants and fire ants respond to a partial attack by budding — queens walk away and start again elsewhere. One nest becomes three, and the “emergency” is now three emergencies spread across the house or the garden. There is more on that in the guide to ant species.

Buying a single visit for a multi-visit problem. Bed bugs and established German cockroach populations are not solved by speed. One rushed treatment against an egg cycle is a deposit on the real job, and the rush usually means it is bought without the follow-ups that make it work.

The pattern underneath all three: the urgency is real, but it is emotional urgency, and spending it on the wrong action makes the actual treatment slower.

What does an urgent visit cost?

ServiceTypical market priceWhat it covers
Single visit, standard bookingRM330Normal scheduling, usually within the week
Single visit, urgent slotRM440Attendance inside 24 to 48 hours
3-visit plan over 14 daysRM550Established populations — the usual answer for cockroaches
Commercial urgent attendanceQuoted per siteTreatment plus the dated report an inspector will ask for

For reference, Nomobug sits consistently around 10% below that typical market range: RM299 for a standard single visit, plus RM100 for a 24 to 48 hour urgent slot, and RM499 for the 3-visit plan over 14 days with a 30-day warranty. Commercial enquiries get a free site inspection and are usually attended within 48 hours. No site visit is needed for a residential quote — send photos on WhatsApp; the deposit is 50%, or pay via ATOME.

When it can genuinely wait

Most of the time, and paying an urgent surcharge for these is money you did not need to spend.

One or two cockroaches, no egg cases. That is a wanderer from the drain, not a nest. Put a gel bait behind the cabinet hinges, give it two weeks, and see. Call someone if it keeps coming back.

Ants on the counter. Wipe the trail with soapy water to break the scent, move whatever they found, and watch for a few days. Ant work is a bait job that takes weeks either way — arriving tomorrow instead of next Tuesday changes nothing about the result.

A termite swarm. Genuinely alarming, genuinely not urgent. The colony has been eating quietly for years and one more week is not the variable. Book a proper inspection instead of a callout, and read what a termite swarm actually means while you wait.

Mosquitoes in the garden. Clear standing water this afternoon — pot bases, the water feature, the tarpaulin, the bottle cap on the drain cover. That does more in an hour than an emergency fogging does, and it is free.

And the honest general rule: if nobody is being stung, nobody has been bitten, no wiring has been chewed and no business is closing, tomorrow is fine. The RM100 is better spent on the follow-up visit than on getting the first one a day earlier.

Hafiz’s service was excellent, efficient, and well-organized, covering every critical location from the kitchen, toilet, bedroom, and living room. He explained the function of gel bait and Provcta.
I’m giving him a 5-star rating.

Overall, from the last two visits, I found many spots/nests. The gel bait and Provcta were very impressive. The effect was very noticeable; the cockroaches were no longer visible in the kitchen. There were fewer in the living room. Today was my last visit for baiting and spraying. Hopefully, there will be no more cockroaches after this, God willing.

Highly recommended!

UPDATE REVIEW:

Nomobug has just completed their second service at my home, and once again I’m extremely impressed. They carried out contingency recurring control twice, especially targeting ants and cockroaches, and I really appreciate how they honor their warranty with such professionalism. The overall appointment scheduling and service management were smooth and reliable, which makes me feel very secure and well taken care of.

I’m very satisfied with the results and would highly recommend Nomobug to anyone looking for thorough pest control. Once my current contract finishes, I will definitely be renewing it.

It’s also worth highlighting that the same technician, Faris, has been consistently handling my house. He is punctual, polite, and highly professional. After completing the treatment, he provided a detailed report outlining his findings and preventive actions, even showing me examples of the control measures implemented. This level of transparency and care is rare, and I truly value it.

Overall, Nomobug continues to exceed my expectations—reliable, professional, and trustworthy.

4 MONTHS AGO:

I recently engaged Nomobug Servis Pest Control for a comprehensive treatment targeting cockroaches, ants, rats, common house geckos, and centipedes. They covered both the interior and exterior of my home—including my car—which was a huge plus.

The first service focused on prevention and control, and I was thoroughly impressed. The technician, Faris, was punctual, polite, and highly professional. He took the time to explain each step of the process—from inspection to recommending suitable control measures—and his work was exceptionally clean and tidy.

After completing the treatment, Faris provided a detailed report outlining his findings and the preventive actions taken and even showed me examples of the control measures implemented. I truly appreciated the transparency and care.

Overall, I’m very satisfied with their service and would confidently recommend Nomobug to anyone looking for reliable and thorough pest control.

I like the persistence. I bought the RM490 package and they came 3 times over the period of 3 months. Now my house has no more cockroaches at all! I am so impressed. Their service is also very atas and staff all friendly and professional. I would recommend anyone looking for pest control service to use this company. Detailed inspection. All the hot spots have set traps for the roaches, here’s hoping it’ll work.
The service provided by Nomobug technicians is good. All technicians who come are very ethical and careful. Provide explanations every time before starting the service. For improvement, it is hoped that there will be no manholes ‘overlooked’ in the first service. Because this will affect the quality of Nomobug services and the cockroaches will still be there. Thank you.

FAQ

Not in the way the adverts imply. What is open at 3am is a phone line or a WhatsApp number, not a technician with a vehicle. Almost every company advertising 24-hour pest control in KL and Selangor is taking your booking at night and attending in normal working hours. Nomobug works Monday to Saturday, 9am to 7pm, and the earliest realistic attendance for an urgent job is a 24 to 48 hour slot. Anyone promising a 2am callout for cockroaches is selling the promise, not the visit.
Three things, roughly: a stinging insect nest where people have to walk past it, especially if anyone in the house has a sting allergy; a live rat in the living space or gnawed electrical wiring; and a business that will fail an inspection or has to close. Everything else — a cockroach sighting, ants on the counter, one termite swarm, a mosquito problem — is genuinely urgent to the person living with it but does not get worse in a way that a two-day wait changes.
Bomba (999) is the right call when the nest is large, high up, in a public area, or when people are actively being stung and cannot get past it — they attend this kind of call routinely and do not charge for it. A pest control company is the better option for a nest that is stable and reachable, when you want the surrounding area treated so it does not simply re-establish, or for a commercial premises that needs documentation of the work. If in doubt and someone is being stung right now, call 999 first.
A realistic urgent slot is 24 to 48 hours. Same-day does happen when a cancellation lines up or the job is close to a technician’s existing route, but it cannot be promised at the point of booking, and a company that promises it every time is either not being straight with you or is about to arrive with twenty minutes to spare. Nomobug charges RM100 on top of the normal price for a 24 to 48 hour urgent slot, and commercial sites are usually attended within 48 hours.
Contain rather than chase. Shut the internal doors so it stays in one room, put down food and water bowls out of reach, and leave the room’s exterior door or window open if there is a clear route outside — a rat trapped in a room will usually leave on its own. Do not corner it and do not try to catch it by hand; cornered rats bite, and rat urine carries leptospirosis, which Malaysia gazetted as a notifiable disease in 2010. If anyone is bitten or scratched, wash the wound and see a doctor the same day.
Yes, and it should — it means moving other bookings. Nomobug’s urgent surcharge is RM100 on top of the standard price for a 24 to 48 hour slot, so a single general pest visit at RM299 becomes RM399. That is still around 10% below the typical market urgent rate. What you should not pay is an emergency premium for a job that is not an emergency, which is most of the calls we get described as one.
It feels like one and it is not. A swarm of winged termites indoors means a mature colony has been feeding somewhere nearby for years, so the damage is already done and one more week changes nothing. The swarmers themselves die within hours and cannot damage anything. What matters is that you have confirmed a colony, so book a proper inspection rather than an emergency callout — and do not spray the swarmers, because scattering them makes the source harder to find.
Evening slots for commercial premises are common, because a restaurant or an office is easier to treat after closing, and those are arranged in advance rather than as a callout. Sunday and after-hours residential work is not standard, and Nomobug does not operate on Sundays. If a company offers a 2am residential visit at a normal price, ask who is actually attending — night rates exist everywhere else in the trade for a reason.
You have to respond promptly; you do not have to respond within the hour. A booking made today for a visit in the next few days is a reasonable response to a cockroach complaint, and it is worth putting that in writing to the tenant so the timeline is documented. Where it does become urgent is a health or safety issue — a rat in the unit, a stinging nest at the door, or a problem the tenant has already reported repeatedly without action.
Snakes are a Bomba call, not a pest control one. A person having an allergic reaction to a sting is a 999 call and nothing else. Gnawed wiring that has already caused a burning smell or a tripping circuit is an electrician first and a pest company second. And a dead animal smell in a wall cavity of a strata building is usually the management corporation’s problem before it is yours. Knowing which door to knock on saves a day, and a day matters in exactly the situations that are genuinely urgent.
